Plattsburg Community Christmas

Sorry folks, the Parade has been cancelled due to the weather.  All the other activities for the day will continue as planned, and the parade has been rescheduled for Saturday, Dec. 10th.

There's nothing quite like the feeling of a small town at Christmas: the shop windows decorated in an old-fashioned style; the Christmas wreaths dangling from vintage lamp posts; and beautifully decorated Victorian homes shining amidst the new fallen snow.  But don't let the small town atmosphere fool you: the big cities aren't the only ones with the "hustle and bustle" of the season.  Plattsburg has plenty of activities to make any season "bright."

Plattsburg Community Christmas entails all of the different events that go on in Plattsburg during the Christmas period (and there are a lot of them).

New this year is formation of Plattsburg Community Christmas Organization. This soon to be non-profit public group plans and oversees the Community Celebration Event (1st Saturday in December) but also is looking into other new Christmas activities.  Check out link to the right for more information on this new and exciting group.

It starts to look like Christmas pretty early in Plattsburg, as the Homes and Businesses bring out the festive Christmas decorations.  Businesses will "compete" with one another, to see who will take home the prize for the season's most decorative displays.  A contest sponsored by plattsburgmo.com, this warm spirited competition makes the downtown are festive for all to enjoy.
The Christmas season also provides the opportunity for a sneak peek inside the local area churches, through the annual "Tour of Churches" event.  Locals and guests become mesmerized at the inner beauty of each church, as they tour the sanctuaries of the town's churches, many of which are more than 100 years old.
One of the highlights of the Christmas season is Plattsburg's Community Christmas Celebratioon, which has recently turned into an "all day" event.  From the Santa Visit, the Christmas Parade, the Forever Christmas Bazaar, and so many other downtown holiday activities, there's plenty to do on this large, one day event.
New this year is the Mayor's Christmas Tree Lighting and Light Parade.  Friday night before the Christmas Celebration Saturday a "for fun" parade goes from City Hall to Broadway and Main with lighted floats, people walking holding or wearing lights.  The parade ends at "Pocket" Park at Broadway and Main where singing, food and drink and the lighting of the Mayor's Christmas Tree.
After the lighting step into Laclede Hotel Apartments and walk through Festival of Trees.  The lobby is full of beautiful decorated trees by local organizations.   If you miss the Friday night event the Festival of Trees will be open Friday nights and Saturdays 1st 2 weeks in December.
