Plattsburg, MO - Mayor's Corner

Mayor's Corner

If you're curious as to what's currently happening in the City or want to hear what's on the mind of Plattsburg's Mayor, Dave Schauer, this is the place to be.  As a rule, the Mayor updates these articles on a weekly basis.

Issue:
12 May, 2012

The City will begin the Birch Avenue Project the later part of May, after school has let out. We have scheduled a Public Hearing on Tuesday, May 15th at 7:00pm at City Hall.  At this hearing we will discuss the Project in more detail and give everyone a chance to ask questions.

Emery Sapp and Sons was awarded the contract and will send us a proposed work schedule for this meeting.  Work will begin soon after school is out and will continue through the summer with the completion scheduled prior to the start of the next school year.

The initial phase will be the removal of the existing street surface and the east sidewalks which will close the street to all traffic and limit foot traffic.  Most residents on Birch Avenue have access by side streets or alleys in the rear.  If that is not the case, please contact City Hall so arrangements can be made to make your property accessible.

The second phase will be the installation of new utilities which would be located under the new street.  The City of Plattsburg’s Public Works Department will do this work.

Phase three will be the application of the new sub-grade followed by the actual street installation.  The new street and curbs will be concrete which will be placed by slip form.

Once Birch Avenue is completed the adjoining streets and drives will be connected.  These connections will be concrete.

The concrete will be allowed to cure for several days at which time it will opened to traffic.

We will be mailing all the effected residents on Birch Avenue a letter inviting them to our Public Hearing on May 15th and also enclose a proposed work schedule for their convenience.   As always, if you have any questions stop by or call City Hall.

Have a Great Week
