At the last council meeting I signed a proclamation recognizing February as Black History month. In this proclamation, I have encouraged everyone in our community to participate in activities in honor of our black heritage.  Jamie Grayson of JLG Enterprises has put together Plattsburg’s second annual “Life and Sounds of Black History” Program.  If you attended last year’s program, you remember the outstanding array of talent he put together.  Well he has outdone himself again this year, with another truly great program with leaders from around NW Missouri.

The program is both a celebration and education on Black History and how Black American’s have impacted the history, culture and development of our great nation.   We need to remember, our nation is a “melting pot” of all nationalities from around the world.  This blend of different people and cultures is one of the main ingredients for the success we have enjoyed as a nation and given us that “never give up attitude”.

I signed another proclamation earlier this week naming February 1 thru the 6^thas the Boy Scouts of America Anniversary week.  If you know a scout or someone at is in scouting, encourage and help them along.  If you know someone that may be interested in joining the scouting program, have them contact our local scoutmasters.  I was in scouting when I was growing up and know what a valuable program they have for young men.
