Perkins Park
Perkins Park, the largest of the city parks, is a 58-acre area
that hosts a variety of recreational activities, including the
city's 4th of July celebration and other large community events.
It also includes a concession stand, in use during various sporting
events.

Perkins
Park was developed with the cooperation of the Army Corps of
Engineers and sits on Corps land near the upper reaches of the
popular Smithville Lake. It is located just off Highway 116 at
the east end of town.

There are 2 regulation sized baseball/softball fields and 1
youth field. The regulation
fields are located in the back of the park and while the youth
field shares the parking lot of the 2 other fields, it is
actually located down the hill past the tennis courts.

Two modern playgrounds are available for children. The
first playground, located in the front of the park, hosts a
fort, slides, swings, teeter-totters, and much more. The second
playground has similar equipment and is located in the back of
the park next to the ball fields and tennis courts.

Two large covered shelters (pavilions) are
available for family and group activities. Each shelter has
tables and plenty of areas for large groups. For a fall or
spring get together, one shelter has a fireplace to help keep
everyone warm. A restroom facility is also included.
The shelters are at the front of the park (as
you first enter). The shelters can be
rented/reserved by contacting City Hall.

Every fall and spring the park is busy with youth soccer
practice and games. Soccer fields are set up in the grass
areas of the park. Primary soccer fields are in the front
part of the park, past the shelters and playground but fields
have been setup in the youth ball field and in the neighboring
Grafton Memorial Park.
The goals are packed away during the summer months
(June-August) so the grassy areas can be used for other
activities.

For people wanting some more exercise, there are 2 tennis
courts in the back of the park right next to the ball diamonds.
The parks currently do not have lights, so if you're wanting to
play a game of tennis be sure to come out before it gets too
dark.
