The Plattsburg Artist Coalition
was formed in the spring of 2000 by local artists. Their goal was to provide a
venue to show and sell their work and educate the community about fine art.
Since our first show we have opened our membership to any artist and have
members from a wide geographical area…
Our main show is held the first
weekend of November, coinciding with the Merchants open houses. The show
is held in the Community Courtyard which is a renovated 1850’s carriage
and livery stable. This brick building with graceful arch-ways was saved
from demolition by a group of concerned citizens in the late 1990’s. The
Friends of the Community Courtyard have committed to providing the
Coalition with this venue for our November shows. We are not charged
rental although we do make a contribution to The Friends for the
maintenance of the building. March through November our group meets the
third Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at the Courtyard located at
117 Maple St. across from the City Hall. Visitors are welcome.
Our shows include a Friday night
reception featuring live music, wine and food. The Coalition provides the
artists with two 4’ by 8’ panels or 6’ tables to display their work.
Should an artist have their own set-up they are welcome to use their own.
Membership runs from June to June
at the cost of $20.00. This provides members with a newsletter and
involvement with some of our merchants for display of our work and
publicity for the show. The fee for our show is $25.00 plus $20.00 if you
are not member of the coalition. We do not take a commission from the
artists. Our call for artists goes out in late August, early September and
we operate on a first-come first-serve basis.
