Plattsburg Chamber of Commerce membership breakfast at the Pink Rosebud Bed and Breakfast

Thursday, January 14, 2010  

President Wade Wilken called the meeting to order. Minutes from the November meeting were presented. Genice Read made a motion to approve the minutes, Matt King seconded – motion passed. The Treasurer’s report was presented. Gordon Gengelbach made a motion to accept the financial report, Don Talley seconded – motion passed.  

Cindy Spellman won the monthly drawing. Presiding Commissioner Randall Relford told the group that it is going to take $15,000 to restore the David Rice Atchison statue and asked for donations. Wade made a few community announcements and then introduced Guest Speaker Beverly McCulloch.  

Beverly spoke to the group about the upcoming Civil War Re-enactment in April. She shared many historical points and encouraged everyone to get involved with the event.  

Following her presentation Don Talley made a motion asking the Board to consider monetary assistance for the event. Ron Adam seconded the motion – motion passed.  

DJ Gehrt with the City of Plattsburg also stated that he would be assisting Beverly with a grant application. And, the advertising committee agreed to help with PR for the event.

President Wade Wilken called the meeting to order.  Minutes from the January meeting were presented.  Mike Edward made a motion to accept, Brenda Grooms seconded the motion--minutes were approved. Treasurers report was on the tables, Cindy Spellman made a motion to approve the report, Tonya Sloan seconded the motion--motion passed. 

Joe Fouceut with KMRN radio won the door prize donated by Plattsburg License Office.  RT Photography was drawn as the next business to be featured in the newsletter.

Wade told the membership that the Chamber donated $250 to the 1864 re-enactment committee and that sponsorship information was on the table.

Several committee announcements were made, including a Perkins Park clean-up on Saturday, March 20, at 9 a.m. 

Plattsburg native Gary Jenkins talked with the group about his documentary "Negroes to Hire" which will be shown later this month at Plattsburg High School.

Plattsburg Chamber of Commerce membership luncheon  at the Pink Rosebud Bed and Breakfast

President Wade Wilken called the meeting to order. Lola Villalobos' name was drawn as the monthly winner.  Lola received a gift bag from Wooden Dove donated by Brenda Grooms. Bo Hoskins of State Farm Insurance was drawn as the next Business Spotlight in the newsletter.  

Minutes from the February meeting were presented. Gordon Gengelbach moved to accept the minutes.  Matt King seconded the motion--motion passed.  Tonya Sloan moved to accept the financial report.  Mike Edwards seconded the motion--motion passed.

Posters were passed out for the annual Recognition Banquet. Nomination forms were passed out.  The nominations will be counted and members will vote at the April breakfast for this year's honorees.

Visitors included: Jerry Wingate (guest of Plattsburg License Office), Terri Swopes--CCR-III Special Education Director, Miranda Phillips--pharmacy intern, and Brad Bake, new administrator at Clinton Care and Rehab. 

Several community announcements were shared.

The program featured Terri Swopes who talked to the members about the school district's special education program.

Thursday, April 1, 2010  

President Wade Wilken called the meeting to order.  Becky Black won the monthly drawing and received two tickets to the Chamber's Recognition banquet.  Clinton Care and Rehab was drawn as next month's "Business of the Month."  

Minutes from the March meeting were presented.  Don Talley moved to accept the minutes.  Charlie Dawson seconded the motion--motion passed. DJ Gehrt moved to accept the financial report.  Mike Edwards seconded the motion--motion passed.

Several community announcements were shared.  There was also discussion about the Recognition Banquet--auction items, set up and attendance.  Ballots were passed out to the members.  Winners will be announced at the banquet on April 10.

Visitors included: Dave Schauer, mayor candidate for Plattsburg; and Karen Bartlett and Dorothy Jacob, Clinton Care and Rehab.

DJ spoke to the group about the city's retail stimulus program.  He also announced his last day would be April 14th.  He is going to Afghanistan to help rebuild their rural communities.

Maurine Bodenhausen talked about the "home delivered meals" program and stated that the Ministerial Alliance will work with the school district and Second Harvest to begin the "Backpack Buddies" program.  The Ministerial Alliance will fund the first year of the program.  

The program featured Adam Arnold, Clinton County Conservation Agent.  Adam talked to the members about all the aspects of local and regional conservation, including huntings economic impact on the area.

President Wade Wilken called the meeting to order.  Rayeann Longwell won the monthly drawing and received a gift from Bank Liberty.  Bailey & Cox Funeral Home was drawn as next month's "Business of the Month."

Minutes from the April meeting were presented.  Don Talley moved to accept the minutes.  Gordon Gengelbach seconded the motion--motion passed.  Don Talley moved to accept the financial report.  Beth Jones seconded the motion--motion passed.

Several community announcements were shared--lots of events in the coming weeks.  Cindy Spellman spoke on behalf of the City of Plattsburg and the Shop-N-Save Program coming up in the month of June.  If you spend $300 (taxable dollars) in Plattsburg, in the month of June, save your receipts.  Turn in the receipts into City Hall for a $30 Plattsburg gift certificate.  Each adult in the household is eligible.  Gift certificates must be spent by Aug. 31st.  Details at City Hall.

Wade asked the membership to please have their board nominees to him before the end of the month.  At the June meeting we will vote on four board members.  Those up for re-election are Becky Black, John Huffman and Rita Terwilleger.  Beth Jones is retiring from the board after 9 years of service.  THANKS BETH!

Membership breakfast at the Pink Rosebud Bed and Breakfast

Thursday, July 1, 2010  

President Wade Wilken opened the meeting.  Minutes from the June meeting were presented.  Don Talley moved to accept the minutes as written.  Gordon Gengelbach seconded; motion passed.  

The treasurer’s report was presented.  Don Talley moved to approve the treasurer’s report, seconded by Matt King; motion passed.  

Wade Wilken won the monthly door prize, a mirror donated by Mid-America Frame/Mickey Burnich.  

The Leader sponsored a drawing related to their Ticket to Summer Fun promotion.  Gordon Gengelbach won two tickets to the St. Joe Mustangs.  

The featured business for next month’s newsletter will be Tinnen Enterprises.  

Wade announced the results of the Chamber’s board election.  Lynn Wood is replacing Beth Jones on the Board.  Beth served nine years on the board, thanks to Beth!  Board officers are Wade Wilken, president; Becky Black, vice-president; Genice Read, Treasurer; and Cindy Spellman, secretary.  

The Chamber will be providing free water and ice cream to attendees at the 4th of July event from 7 p.m. until the supply runs out or ending at 9:30 p.m.  The Longwell family will be manning the food booth and a local 4H group will clean up following the event.  

Wade asked for volunteers to act as ticket sellers and ticket takers for the upcoming Culpepper-Merriweather Circus on Tuesday, August 31.  Wade and Cindy Spellman had previously volunteered to serve on the committee.  Lynn Wood and Lola Villalobos will assist them.  

Visitors included Jimmy McMillan from Clinton Care and Rehab and Grace and Jim Hobbs’ granddaughter, Ava.  

Membership packets were mailed out this month.  The deadline to return the forms is August 5 in order to be listed in the membership directory.  Forms are also available on-line and automatic billing can be set up, as well.  

The guest speaker was motivational speaker Jamie Grayson of JLG Enterprise LLC.  Jamie’s vision is “Living a Dream while Serving a Purpose.”   A golf tournament scheduled for July 24 will help fund two scholarships Jamie has established.  

Tonya Sloan announced that Platte Valley Bank was having Customer Appreciation Days on July 2.  The Huffman’s are celebrating 50 years together.  Congratulations John and Susie!

Plattsburg Chamber of Commerce Monthly Meeting

@ Pink Rosebud Bed and Breakfast 

President Tonya Sloan called the meeting to order.  It was a full house.  Visitors included the Plattsburg Clinic Pharmacy intern and newly elected commissioner Charlie Dawson. 

 The board’s advertising committee reported about the success of the holiday advertising.  Brenda Grooms thanked all those who made the Santa visit a success, 62 kids participated.  Winners were announced from the Longwell Home/Business Decorating contest.  Genice Read reported that Plattsburg Bucks sales went really well.  She noted that many businesses bought Bucks for employees.

 Brenda made a motion to approve the minutes and Wade Wilken seconded – minutes were approved.

Don Talley made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report, Polly Jaben seconded – report was approved.

There were many community announcements regarding upcoming events.

It was also mentioned that the Tour of Churches was successful this year; it was one of the better crowds.

The Adopt-a Family program was also very successful during the holiday season.  Maurine Bodenhausen reported that the Food Pantry saw 10% increase in families helped and that they were so grateful for the numerous cash donations and the donations of canned goods was “phenomenal.”

The winner of this month’s drawing was Grace Hobbs.  She received a gift certificate from Corner Spa.

The speaker for January was Ronda VanDyke with the Economic Development Council of Clinton County. 

After Ronda concluded her program Tonya adjourned the meeting.  The Plattsburg High School Media Club will make a presentation at February’s meeting.

Plattsburg Chamber of Commerce Monthly Meeting

@ Pink Rosebud Bed and Breakfast

 President Tonya Sloan called the meeting to order.  Guests introduced were new member Chris Davis with Net Life Insurance, Kim with Edward Jones, Keith Foster and students from the media club and Mary Lou Bailey.

Wade Wilken made a motion to accept the minutes from the previous meeting and Brenda Grooms seconded.  The minutes were approved.  Dona Talley made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and Wade seconded.  The financial report was approved.

Gordon Gengelbach won the drawing.  He received a pool pass from the City of Plattsburg.

The Advertising Committee gave a report about the events calendar.

Brenda gave a report to the members about Great Northwest Day.  344 attended from the region.  The Chamber distributed postcards and other information about Plattsburg.  She said it was a great way to network.  Tonya thanked Brenda for representing the chamber.

It was announced that the awards program and banquet would be Saturday, April 4th this year in the high school cafeteria.  We will begin nominations at the next meeting.

Members shared promotions, events and news.  Several community announcements were made.  Betty Walters shared with the group that she found a program from the 16th annual Plattsburg Chautauqua among here things.  She plans to donate the items to the historical society.

Tonya told the membership that the Extension office is moving into the former Chamber building in March.

The program featured Keith Foster and the Clinton County R-III Media Club.

The meeting was adjourned.

March 5, 2009

President Tonya Sloan called the meeting to order.  Guests included: Brett Thorne of Thorne Lumber; Tim Spellman; and Sheila Wilken.

Wade Wilken made a motion to accept the minutes from the previous meeting, Don Talley seconded – motion passed.  Wade made a motion to accept the financial report, Brenda Grooms seconded – motion passed.

Tonya announced the annual Recognition Banquet and Unique Labor Auction will be Saturday, April 4th.  Becky passed out the nomination ballots.  Voting on the finalists will take place at the April breakfast meeting.  Tonya reminded everyone she needs items for the auction.

Hannah Kennedy announced that Treasure Chest in Lathrop wants to buy a billboard on I-35 and is looking for another business to split it with her.  Anyone interested should talk with Hannah.

Rita Terwilleger gave the report for the Advertising committee.  She announced the addition of a Chamber newsletter, the “Chamber Exchange.”  It will definitely be quarterly, but they are going to attempt monthly.  It will be emailed to the membership prior to the monthly meeting.  She also announced the new Chamber tourism piece should be out in April.

Kate Long spoke to the group about updating the organizations list on the website.  She encouraged everyone to get her the information for their group.

Brenda Grooms updated everyone about the Economic Development Council of Clinton County.  They had more than 100 people at their kick-off and have 19 new members.

Tonya told the membership that the Extension will be moving into the former Chamber office the middle of March.  An email will go out to members regarding bids on excess items.

The door prize was donated by Thorne Lumber, Don Talley won a weather radio.

And finally, Trevor Black with the Northwest Missouri Amateur Radio Emergency Services group gave a program on how Ham Radio operators can help in a time of disaster.

President Tonya Sloan called the meeting to order.  Genice Read moved to approve the minutes and Roger King seconded the motion – minutes were approved.  Genice presented the financial report. Wade Wilken moved to accept the report, Don Talley seconded the motion – report approved.

Tonya announced the plans for the annual Recognition banquet.  Nominees were announced.  The group was updated on the Pony Express Tourism Council.  Cindy Spellman is the representative for the Chamber.  Our chamber will be hosting the Pony Express Tourism Council in July.

Cindy announced that the Master Gardners would have a plant sale the weekend of the Citywide Garage Sales.  Rich Bel has stepped to chair this year’s event, May 1-2.

City Administrator DJ Gehrt spoke to the group about several items, including the upcoming April 7th election.

Jim Hobbs won the door prize for this month.  The prize was donated by The Wooden Dove.

Rebecca Evans, Regional Director with the Small Business Development Center then spoke to the group about what her office can do for small businesses.

President Tonya Sloan called the meeting to order.  The Clinton County Library Friends donated the Door Prize for May. Lambeth Zachary won a family pass to their Summer Fun event May 31. Wade Wilken moved to approve the minutes and Don Talley seconded the motion – minutes were approved.  Genice presented the financial report Don Talley moved to accept the report, Wade Wilken seconded the motion – report approved.

Tonya congratulated the winners from the annual Recognition Banquet.  The dinner and auction profit was $928.

Next, Tonya addressed the lunch reservation issue.  She told the membership the importance of lunch reservations, so that the Chamber can give Pink Rosebud an accurate count.  A letter will be sent out to the membership explaining the situation.

Lambeth Zachary volunteered to be a contact person for tours that come to our area.  She will coordinate information with the bus companies.

Don Talley spoke to the group about the Rotary’s effort make a Clinton County DVD.  Money is needed for expenses; Jim Patrico is the contact for more information.

Becky Black announced that Plattsburg was featured in “Haunted Kansas City, Missouri” a book about area haunts. Books are available at Pink Rosebud Antiques.

Becky also announced invited the members to the Clinton County Library Friends Summer Fun dinner, book fair and auction. Cheryl Barnes with PCEC announced Platte-Clay’s Energy Fair. Many other community announcements were made.

Mary Jo Eiberger and Carolyn Lovelace spoke to the group about the Clinton/DeKalb County Domestic Violence Task Force and the group’s effort to provide a shelter in Cameron to service the area. The group will host a Poker Run on July 11th.

 President Tonya Sloan called the meeting to order.  Wade Wilken made a motion to approve the minutes from the previous meeting, Randy Broyles seconded the motion – motion passed. The financial report included information for the next budget year. Wade made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report, Randy seconded the motion – motion passed.

Guests were introduced; Ian Terwilleger came with his mom, Rita. Tonya introduced the new board members elected at the June meeting. Lou Proctor, Rayeann Longwell, Genice Read and Kate Long were welcomed. She thanked former board members Brenda Grooms, Mike Lord and Kathy Williams for their service.

Membership letters were sent out, and Tonya encouraged all members to invite new members into the Chamber.

She announced that the Chamber and the City would be hosting a DJ, watermelon and water at the park prior to the fireworks. Let her know if you can volunteer.

Tonya also mentioned that the Chamber needs to start planning this year’s Homes tour. The committee is looking for new members and homes.

Community announcements were made about upcoming events. The Fall Festival committee noted that they made $350 from Summer Songfest this year. Cindy Spellman told the group that the Pony Express tourism group would be in Plattsburg on July 9.

Ronda VanDyke and DJ Gehrt were speakers in July. Ronda spoke about the upcoming EDCCC Summer Blowout. DJ talked about current City issues.

Donna Howard won the door prize, a fireworks package donated by Crazy Jimmy’s Fireworks.

August 6, 2009 

President Wade Wilken called the meeting to order. Guests included Lindsey Skillings, the Pharmacy intern for August.  Wade announced the new board officers: Wade Wilken, President; Tonya Sloan, Vice President; Becky Black, Secretary; Genice Read, Treasurer. 

Tonya made a motion to accept the minutes, Cindy Spellman seconded – motion passed.

Gordon Gengelbach made a motion to accept the financial report, DJ Gehrt seconded – motion passed. 

Alan Hall won two tickets for the EDCCC concert and Gordon Gengelbach won a “Jayhawk” tomato in the monthly drawing. 

Under Old Business Wade told the membership about the upcoming EDCCC event and the food booth the chamber would be hosting with the Rotary and Masonic Lodge. He reminded everyone to come and volunteer.  Ronda encouraged the businesses to participate in the booths. She also said there were a few openings still for the golf tournament. 

The deadline for the Membership Directory was announced. The Advertising Committee hopes to distribute the directory in October. 

Guest speaker Don Wichern with MoDOT talked to the group about MoDOT’s goals.

President Wade Wilken called the meeting to order. Platte Valley Bank donated the door prize for September and Lola Villalobos won the Duck-n-Run cookbook.  Guests included the Plattsburg Clinic Pharmacy intern, Megan, and Candace Hanks of the Clinton Co. Clerk's office.  

The minutes were presented, Brenda Grooms made a motion to accept, Genice Read seconded the motion--motion passed.

Matt of M-n-H Lawn Care made a motion to accept the Treasurer's report, DJ Gehrt seconded--motion passed.

Person of the Year ballots for the Fall Festival were passed out.  Members were asked to nominate three people.  Those names will be tallied and members will vote on a winner at the October breakfast meeting. 

Wade asked for a volunteer to chair the Santa visit committee.  Brenda Grooms said she would do it again this year.  The visit will be December 8th at the Community Courtyard.  

He also announced that there was a Fall Festival meeting that night and that if anyone had an item for the Silent Auction or could volunteer time to please contact Tonya Sloan or Rayeann Longwell.

There was discussion about the fate of the Homes Tour and the need for more homes.

Community announcements were made - Maurine Bodenhausen told the group that more than $3,300 was raised for the food pantry adn the dinner and concert fundraiser.  She pointed out that the demand is up and that would cover 1 1/2 months groceries. 

Brenda Kennedy with Region D Recycling and Waste Management then spoke to the group about recycling in Clinton County and what Region D does for the community.

The speaker for November 5th will be Gordon Gengelbach.  Gordon will talk tot he group about his memories of Plattsburg.

Tom Watkins from Community Action Partnership will be hosting a luncheon for  Chamber members on Nov. 18th at noon, held at the lower level of the meeting room in the Clinton County Courthouse.  He will be speaking on economic development, workforce development and education.  Those interested should RSVP to pckeesaman@endpov.com.

Plattsburg Chamber of Commerce membership luncheon at the Pink Rosebud Bed and Breakfast

Thursday, October 1, 2009  

President Wade Wilken called the meeting to order.  The minutes from the previous meeting and the financial report were presented.  Ronda Van Dyke made a motion to accept both, Brenda Grooms seconded the motion--the motion passed unanimously.

Randall Relford won the motnly drawing and received a mum donated by Brenda Grooms.  Guests included Mary Kaser from Plattsburg Family Medicine, the Bingham family and Cynthia Jacobs with the LaClede Hotel. 

Ballots fro the Chamber's Fall Festival Person of the Year were on the tables. Members were asked to vote for one individual.  Becky Black, Brenda Grooms, Tonya Sloan and Wade Wilken were the 2009 nominees.  Cindy Spellman will announce the winner during the festival opening ceremonies.

Wade announced that committee sign-up sheets were available and encouraged the membership to sign-up for a committee to assist board members.  He also reminded everyone that there are a few Chamber t-shirts left in sized M to XL.  

Several community announcements were made including the Rotary Chili Supper, Tom Watkins luncheon and the courthouse elevator status.  

Gordon Gengelbach will share his memories of Plattsburg at the November 5th luncheon. 

Our program was Christina Bingham, a freshman at Plattsburg High School who took the People to People trip this year.  She shared photos and stories from her trip abroad.

Plattsburg Chamber of Commerce membership luncheon at the Pink Rosebud Bed and Breakfast

Thursday, November 5, 2009

President Wade Wilken called the meeting to order.  Minutes and Treasurers reports were approved as presented.

Guests were recognized.

Commissioner Relford talked about the progress of the elevator construction at the courthouse.  DJ Gerht announced that the fence leading to PErkins Park would be taken down next week for powder coating.

Wade made several community announcements.

Gordon Gengelbach was the guest speaker for the day.  He shared his memories of early agriculture families in the Plattsburg area.

The next meeting will be Friday, December 4.  It will be a come and go Winde & Cheese social at the Pink Rosebud from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

January 14, 2010  Beverly McCulloch will speak to the group about the upcoming Civil War Re-enactment in April 2010.

 

 December 2009

No lunch meeting was held.  Instead a Come and Go Wine & Cheese Social was held at the Pink Rosebud on Friday, December 4, 2009, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Members were treated to special appetizers and holiday music, and were presented with a packet put together by the Chamber Board, including a business directory, window decals to display their Chamber membership, and a special thank you card from the Chamber displaying the various activities the Chamber had helped contribute to in the year 2009. 

The next meeting will be Thursday, January 14, 2010.  The speaker will be Beverly McCulloch who will talk to the group about the upcoming Civil War Re-enactment in April 2010.
